About Mr. Russell

Asalamu alaikum!

My name is Quentin Russell and I am so blessed to serve as the middle and high school English Language Arts teacher alongside the wonderful staff at Sunrise Academy.

After graduating from Miami University, I was honored to receive the Joanna Jackson Goldman Memorial Prize, which funded me to serve as the Poetry Artist in Residence at several Cincinnati high schools and middle schools. Soon after, I began teaching in Cincinnati and serving on the United States Board on Books for Young People (USBBY)'s Outstanding International Book List Committee, in order to promote international literature for children and young adults and provide helpful resources for teachers across the United States. Then, one thing led to another, and I found myself at Sunrise Academy; I couldn't be happier to be here!

Why should studying English matter? Because our knowledge and use of language determines the precision and clarity with which we can think and communicate those thoughts to others. We also study English because our narratives about the world determine what we believe about ourselves and others, and as a result, determine how we behave in accordance with those narratives. It is my hope that by studying reading, writing, and language, we can grow to become better thinkers, better citizens, and better humans.

While I have some sample images, courses, and assignments in the links in the right sidebar, this site will be the best way to keep up to date on the current syllabi and assignments for my classes, as well as a place to find other materials or resources needed. (Currently it is undergoing some construction, so if you are reading this before the school year starts, you won't find too much. My apologies! I hope to have it ready and up-to-date soon.)

The semester is almost here! I am excited to start the new year with you, and should have more specific information about my classes up soon. Until then, enjoy the last few weeks of summer!
