Miss Rahima Furbee » IN GRADE 1B, WE ARE FAMILY!

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله و بركا ته

My name is Rahima Furbee. I am honored to be a First Grade teacher in an Islamic school, where I strive to help foster the growth and development of the heart, mind and Islamic identity of the young Muslim learner! This is my 17th year of teaching at Sunrise Academy, and my fourth year of teaching first grade General Studies. I am a graduate of the International Islamic University Malaysia, with a B.S.  in Political Science and Islamic Studies. Alhamdulillah, I was blessed with the opportunity to do an Intensive Arabic Language program at Zarka Private University, in Az-Zarqa', Jordan. I have also achieved certification for the Islamic Teacher Education Program from the University of Toronto and certification in Teaching Qur'anic Recitation using the Noraniah Method from the Furqan Institute in Jeddah. I am currently in pursuit of an M.Ed. in ESL & Bilingual Education from the American College of Education.

My teaching philosophy is guided by Rahma (Mercy) toward Allah SWT's creation, just as I am in need of His Mercy, as His servant. Furthermore, as a parent, I strive to treat my students the way I would like my daughter to be treated.

I am both an adherent and proponent of the Growth Mindset, which honors the best that each individual has to offer throughout his/her life. As a Muslim, I believe that learning is a life-long process. I pray that Allah SWT grants me the ability to inspire the love of learning in all of my students.
