As Salamu Alaikum and Hello!
I am hopeful that everyone had an enjoyable summer break. As a new teacher at Sunrise Academy, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Maimunah Woodson and I am the 4th grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. I am grateful and honored!
I graduated from Western Governors University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Educational Studies and I returned to WGU to further my education and earned a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education.
I have been working with children for more than 20 years and I truly enjoy teaching in an Islamic environment because I understand the importance of helping our children learn about the core subjects. It is even more important for them to learn about Allah subhana wa ta’ala and the religion of Islam. My goal as an educator is to please my Lord by teaching the children with mercy and compassion, along with the firmness and structure that will help them flourish. Insha Allah the children will become the well-rounded, responsible citizens that our society needs.
Educating children has proven to be an extremely rewarding experience. I have come to find that they have a natural curiosity for learning. It is the responsibility of families, teachers, and others within the community to feed their curiosities and encourage the youth throughout their educational endeavors. While having six children of my own, I understand the anxieties that they face from day to day. My goal is to help relieve some of their stress by acting as an enthusiastic educator and a strong believer of each child’s outstanding potential.
